About this campaign

BoerBert has farmed the Kamerik polder since 1885 and switched to fully organic production in 2003. Jaco and Liesbeth de Groot took over in 2021 as the fifth generation, running 280 organic dairy cows across more than 250 hectares of unfertilised grassland, alongside free-range chickens and a flock of sheep that graze the ditch banks. It is not a single-product operation: a dedicated cheesemaker turns out roughly 100 kg of cheese every two weeks, with goat dairy, pork, honey, and craft beer coming from a network of named neighbouring makers. Backers receive a defined share of the farm's real produce, can fill their own bottles at the raw-milk tap in the farm shop, and are welcome to meet the team or stay overnight in one of two hay-barn cottages. The farm has held SKAL organic certification continuously since 2008 and delivers its milk through the EKO-Holland cooperative.

The milk tastes like the meadow smells

I pick up six litres every Saturday morning on the way back from the market. The raw milk is thick and genuinely yellow from the grass, nothing like what I was buying at the supermarket. Jaco showed me around the barn on my first visit and I left knowing the names of three cows. Twelve fractions felt like a big commitment in March; by June it felt like the most obvious thing I had ever spent money on.

Saturday mornings sorted for the year

I cycle out from Utrecht most Saturdays to fill my bottles at the farm tap. The team always know who you are when you arrive, which sounds small but makes a real difference. The cheese is a bonus I did not expect — a wedge of the aged Gouda-style every couple of months has become something my whole household plans around.

Exactly what it says on the label

Three fractions in and I have more milk than I can drink alone, which has turned me into an accidental yoghurt maker. The farm reporting is good — a short update each season with actual numbers, not vague reassurances. My only mild frustration is the pickup window on weekdays is tight if you work office hours, but the Saturday tap is always open.
